A well-maintained HVAC system can be expected to last between 15 and 25 years. However, the lifespan can vary significantly based on factors like usage, climate, maintenance, and the type of system.

Typical Lifespans by System Type:

  • Furnaces: 15-30 years, with gas furnaces often outlasting electric furnaces.

  • Air Conditioners: 15-20 years.

  • Heat Pumps: 15-20 years.

  • Boilers: 15-35 years, depending on the type.

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 15-20 years.

  • Geothermal Heat Pumps: 25-30 years, with ground loops lasting 50+ years.
